Caches No’s 3673 to 3683 – Another Bank Holiday Caching Trip

One of the reasons I had tried so many times to solve the Otley Environs puzzle (cache #3672) was that it was hidden on 11th November – a ‘hidden on’ date I did not have filled in my calendar. Finding it left just two dates unfilled – the 18th and 29th February. So I fired up Project GC and used the tool there to show me all the caches in Yorkshire that were hidden on those dates so I could plan a Bank Holiday caching expedition to take in suitable caches to fill the grid.

25th May 2015 – Ye Ole Survey Monuments GC45CC – cache #3673
This time logging YSM459 Hemingborough
Well if I’m going for a road trip I need to go via a YOSM or two….
Much easier to find than I expected, someone (cacher or Trigpointer) has dug it out recently

25th May 2015 – Anniversary View GC3DMFY – cache #3674
Hidden on the 29th February, so that ticked the last but one space on the calendar… A nice quick drive by on a remarkable busy road full of cyclists, walkers and horses… not so many cars fortunately ! A nice gold coloured cache for a couples anniversary, as you can see from the headline picture

25th May 2015 – Prime Meridian again {E. Yorks} GC2BA5 – cache #3675
A Virtual cache dating back to August 2001… making it one of the oldest caches I have found, and all I had to do was pull up at the side of the road and take a picture

25th May 2015 – Ye Ole Survey Monuments GC45CC – cache #3676
This time logging YSM494 Lockham
My second YSM of the day, not a very inspiring location hard up against the fence in the corner of a field

25th May 2015 – Oi! Can Anyone Hear A Zeppelin? GCN97E – cache #3677
A scheduled ancient monument… a concrete convex structure placed in a field. What it actually is is a ‘sound mirror’ used to concentrate the sound of Zeppelins flying in to drop bombs on Hull so that there was some early warning… there are very few left in the country now. I parked in the Nature Reserve carpark and just followed the path to the mirror
No Zeppelins to hear today

After this I didn’t find GC1A56 Prime Meridian North {E Yorks} As well as filling in the ‘Hidden on’ date calendar there is also the ‘Hidden on’ month calendar, and February 2001 was a date I hadn’t got filled in so I parked up and went for a walk to find this cache, but unfortunately I could find no way down to where the cache is
There were a couple of openings into the top of the vegetation, but none let you get out at the bottom, nor far enough along inside the bushes to get near the cache
I appreciate that the cache is a D4/T4 but the only way to get to it is with a machete !

25th May 2015 – The Sleeper GC5N066 – cache #3678
Stopped for a quick walk just to do this one cache of the series… the reason ? the only gap on my grid of ‘hidden dates’ was 18/2… that grid is now filled

25th May 2015 – Seaton Bike Ride GC3KAF3 – cache #3679
I went to Seaton for a virtual cache, but it would have been rude not to walk around the corner for this cache

25th May 2015 – Sign of Old Times [E Yorks] GCH4TQ – cache #3680
Another old virtual cache, this one from October 2003. I can’t remember seeing any other town signs like this

25th May 2015 – Trans Pennine Trail – Eastern End GCDA71 – cache #3681
Yet another virtual cache. A confusing number of monuments mark the end of the Trans-Pennine Trail in Hornsea… there’s one at the old station, a Trig Point type thing half way between the station and the sea, and then this one down by the beach…
I got there at the same time as a couple of cyclists – who’d spent their Bank Holiday weekend cycling from Southport

25th May 2015 – Curse of the FTF (East Yorks) #2 GC222H8 – cache #3682
A Quick cache and dash on my way to Driffield…

curseofftf2

25th May 2015 – Ye Ole Survey Monuments GC45CC GC – cache #3683
This time logging YSM228 Driffield
Third and last YSM I found today, another easy to find roadside Surface Block…
