Caches No’s 2015 to 2025 – The Diversion Back Home

Following the Mega Adam and I went back to our B&B for a good nights sleep, then in the morning we had a huge fried breakfast and felt in need of a little stroll to work it off… so of course we went caching

12th August 2012 – A Cumbrian Chirp – Newby Bridge GC2PB11 – cache #2015
My First Chirp cache ! A chirp is a small radio transmitter which sends data to a suitably equipped GPS, and they are used in multi-caches to send the final co-ordinates
As our guest house was about 50yards from the Chirp for the Mega it seemed like a good idea for Adam and I to go for this cache.
When we got to the co-ordinates given by the chirp we found Pfusi – a Swiss Cacher already there looking for the cache, which we quickly found between us

12th August 2012 – Fell Foot Park (FFP1) – The Anchor2 GC3RJ9P – cache #2016
As part of the Celebrations for the Mega several events had taken place in the days before it, one was a Teddy Bears picnic which had taken place in a park at the bottom end of Windermere – just a mile or so from where Adam and I were staying, so we thought we’d take a little time to get the caches there. The park was quite busy, but there was no-one around this cache

12th August 2012 – Fell Foot Park (FFP2) – Pudsey GC3RJAB – cache #2017
Fortified by ice-cream (at 11a.m.) to celebrate finding number 1 this was an easy find

12th August 2012 – Fell Foot Park (FFP3) – Paddington GC3RJAP – cache #2018
Adam and I were playing guess where the cache is hidden as we walked around the park… this one was pretty obvious

12th August 2012 – Fell Foot Park (FFP4) – The Willow Arch GC3RJB3 – cache #2019
An explicit hint meant this was an easy find

12th August 2012 – Fell Foot Park (FFP5) – Rupert Bear GC3RJBF – cache #2020
We spotted this as we walked along the path towards it (the lid was catching the light) Adam hid it then had to rehide it as we realised that he hadn’t put it back in accordance with the hint !

12th August 2012 – Fell Foot Park (FFP6) – Winnie the Pooh GC3RJC1 – cache #2021
There were two or three places to choose from, here but we got the right one in the end

12th August 2012 – FNF – Middle of the Road 1 GC1FX7C – cache #2022
The last of the Mega weekend caches found with Adam… after this we drove our separate ways… This cache really is hidden in the middle of the road… the road in question is a section of the old A590, now bypassed by the new wider road… and to encourage it to go back to nature the tarmac has been sliced through to allow plants to grow up through it

12th August 2012 – Lunesdale 3 – We Three Kilns GC3HAKV – cache #2023
After leaving Adam I decided that as it was only mid afternoon I may as well divert back over to the North East to find The Impossible Enigma (and turn a 90 minute journey into a 200 minute one !), so instead of heading home I again headed over to the A66 and home, calling at a couple of drive by’s on the way. This first one was next to one of 3 lime kilns that can be found on one short stretch of road

12th August 2012 – Lunesdale 5 – The Hanging Gardens GC3HAMD – cache #2024
A cache in the quarry where the limestone for the kilns was dug out, and the cache is half way up the quarry face – and at 3.5* is the highest terrain rating I have seen for a drive by cache ! I surveyed the terrain, decided it didn’t seem too bad and quickly scrambled over to the cache… it didn’t seem so easy getting back though !

12th August 2012 – The Impossible Enigma? GC3HXM8 – cache #2025
After another 75 mile diversion I arrived back at the place I had been two days previously, but this time I was armed with the knowledge of exactly how the cache was hidden and I proceeded to the ‘hide’ and with a little perseverance discovered a container holding a nice, new, unwritten on log sheet

Once I had eventually found the cache I realised why my search had been fruitless two days before… with the target co-ordinates set to the puzzle answer and the GPS on top of the cache hide, this is what I saw

The co-ordinates for the cache were showing as almost 60 feet away from where the cache actually is hidden
