Caches No’s 6014 to 6043 – West Mids Mega Day 5

After all the walking about and jumping on and off trains at the railway I was ready for a quiet day, so it was back to doing Lab caches.

There was an event on in Lichfield at 11:00am, which gave me time to wander round Uttoxeter to find the Lab caches put out in the town

5th August 2022 – Wotocheshede Town History Lab Cache – Market Square – cache #6014
“Uttoxeter’s name has been spelt at least 79 ways since it appeared in the Domesday Book of 1086 as “Wotocheshede” it probably came from Anglo-Saxon Wuttuceshǣddre, meaning “Wuttuc’s homestead on the heath” So says Wikipedia !

5th August 2022 – Wotocheshede Town History Lab Cache – How to modernise your wooden building – cache #6015

Then it was time to head over to Lichfield for the event… as Angel78 lived in Lichfield for years I know the city pretty well, so I asked up in the last space in the small car park and first headed for the Lab caches on one side of the park
5th August 2022 – Lichfield – Easy Beacon Park Lab Cache – The Peace Woodland – cache #6024

Harder to find than it should have been, the peace woodland seemed to be a maze

5th August 2022 – Lichfield – Easy Beacon Park Lab Cache – Allotments – cache #6025
No, I have no idea what the dogs are all about… it maybe said somwhere in the Lab cache description, but who reads them ?

5th August 2022 – Lichfield – Easy Beacon Park Lab Cache – Rapide Slideout – cache #6026
For those in the know Rapide Slideout is the name of a type of manhole cover… I am sure there is more of interest in Beacon park than a manhole cover

5th August 2022 – Teddy Bear’s Picnic GC9MDY6 – cache #6027
Then it was on to the traditional Friday daytime event, the Teddy Bears picnic, I stayed and chatted for 15 minutes or so and then headed on to finish the Lab caches

5th August 2022 – Lichfield – Easy Beacon Park Lab Cache – Skatepark – cache #6028

5th August 2022 – Lichfield – Easy Beacon Park Lab Cache – Public Place – cache #6029

It was 12:00 and I was left with the whole afternoon to fill, so I decided to head over to Stafford castle as there were two sets of Lab caches in one place there

5th August 2022 – Stafford Castle Tour Part One Lab Cache – Herb Garden – cache #6030

5th August 2022 – Stafford Castle Tour Part Two Lab Cache – Gothic Reconstruction – cache #6036

5th August 2022 – Castles of Staffordshire Lab Cache – Stafford Castle – cache #6037
There was a set of Labs put out covering 10 castles of Staffordshire, Stafford Castle was one of the Locations but you had to go inside the castle to get the answer, and as I was going in I got the answer

It was now that we had the second rain shower of the week (Monday, day 1 had been a bit damp in the morning) a heavy, but short downpour… fortunately there are enough walls still standing that the walkways inside the wall are protected from the rain, so I just stayed under cover until the rain passed

5th August 2022 – Stafford Castle Tour Part Two Lab Cache – Stone Keep – cache #6038

5th August 2022 – Stafford Castle Tour Part Two Lab Cache – Inner Bailey Defences & Motte Ditch – cache #6039

5th August 2022 – Stafford Castle Tour Part Two Lab Cache – Inner Bailey Defences and Motte – cache #6040

5th August 2022 – Send in the Clowns! GC9MDY8 – cache #6041
The circus skills event was still going on when I got back to Uttoxeter, so I wandered over to sign the log… I didn’t try my hand at any skills though

5th August 2022 – Castles of Staffordshire Lab Cache – Chartley Castle – cache #6042
This lab cache I hadn’t been able to get to the answer as I drove past, but I got near enough to be within the geofence, which meant that I could google the answer when I got chance and then log the cache

5th August 2022 – Tonight I’m gonna party, like it’s 1999! GC9MDYC – cache #6043
Except that in reality it was a pretty flat event, Phil Lannie on the disco just couldn’t get people up and grooving (not like our Yorkshire 2018 Friday night party which was undoubtedly the best evening event ever at a Mega (so far))
