Sunday, and the traditional ‘meet the next year’s Mega Committee’ event… West Midlands next year… The description of the event said take part in sgames and races to give a flavour of what to expect next year, as the Commonwealth Games are going to be on in Birmingham at the same time as the Mega…

8th August 2021 – LM21: Fun and Games with the West Midlands Team GC9CQAZ – cache #5520
In the end it was a very quiet affair as the Lincolnshire Committeee had already decided to abandon their plans for their final two events, due to the number of Covid cases, and many people had decided to leave early now that the Mega day was over

And just in case you are wondering what flag the log sheet was

8th August 2021 – Memories of Gainsborough Lab Cache – The Shop – cache #5521
Of course I was staying until the bitter end, so I had Sunday afternoon to fill… more Lab caches (these last few sets would clear Lincolnshire of Lab Caches), so first it was off to Gainsborough

8th August 2021 – Kirton in Lindsey – A History Tour Lab Cache – The Whipping Post – cache #5528

It was around here that the NHS app caught up with me to tell me I had been near someone who had tested positive for Covid and that I should self isolate for 7 days….

Well I knew I had been near many people who had tested positive for covid all week, so it wasn’t telling me anything I didn’t already know !

8th August 2021 – LM21: Farewell Lincolnshire! GC9CQAW – cache #5536
A much reduced event than was originally planned… by now so many people had tested positive or Covid that it was deemed by the committee not sensible to hold the event as planned, so it became just a short socially distanced social event, to do nothing rally much more than say I was there !

9th August 2021 – Shiny happy people GC2PHNH – cache #5537
This was the only cache anywhere near the campsite that I found all week… even though the committee had put out a walk that went past the bedroom window of the room I was staying in. I had looked at doing the drive by series, but at the first cache there were several cars and nowhere for me to park, and as I was by myself I would need to park and get out of the car, not just pull over and let a passenger hop out for the cache… so I gave up on the idea… But on the Monday morning this cache at the far side of the Showground was quickly found

9th August 2021 – LM21: Goodbye and Thank you GC9CQB7 – cache #5538
And a final Covid friendly event, out of doors and really not much more than the last few people on site saying a socially distanced goodbye (I believe I was the only ‘visitor’ there !)

9th August 2021 – Southwell History Trail Lab Cache – The Original Bramley Apple Tree – cache #5539
I had seen that there had been a set of Lab caches put out in Dukes Wood , which is one of the best places I have visited while caching (see caches 2742, 43 & 44) So I arranged my trip home to visit there again, but first my route took me through Southwell so I had to stop and do the lab caches there

9th August 2021 – Southwell History Trail Lab Cache – Southwell Roman Villa – cache #5540

9th August 2021 – Southwell History Trail Lab Cache – Archbishops Palace – cache #5541

9th August 2021 – Southwell History Trail Lab Cache – Southwell Minster – cache #5542
Southwell is a small town with a population of only about 7,500… and yet it has a huge minster church

9th August 2021 – Southwell History Trail Lab Cache – Saracens Head – cache #5543
The Saracens head dates back to the 1400’s, Charles the First spent his last night of freedom there

9th August 2021 – The Oil Patch Warriors Lab Cache – Entrance to Duke’s Wood – cache #5544
Dukes Wood, still as fantastic as I had found it back in 2013

9th August 2021 – The Oil Patch Warriors Lab Cache – Well Head – cache #5545

9th August 2021 – The Oil Patch Warriors Lab Cache – Nodding Donkey – cache #5546

9th August 2021 – The Oil Patch Warriors Lab Cache – Oil pump – cache #5548

9th August 2021 – Oil Patch Warriors Adventure Bonus GC91J2E – cache #5549
And finally the bonus cache, which was conveniently in the car park

And so ended my trip to Piratemania and the Lincolnshire Mega… a total of 235 ‘finds’… 2 Mega events, 16 other events, 42 ‘normal’ caches and 175 Lab caches
