Caches No’s 5379 to 5400 – Piratemania 13 Part III

The UK Mega usually runs from Monday to Monday, but this year with the organisation being greatly messed up by Covid lockdowns it was agreed by the two committees that the Mega wouldn’t start until the Tuesday and Piratemania would carry on for an extra day

As I wasn’t staying on the campsite I needed to fill my day up somehow so decided there were some Lab Caches to find (well basically I had worked out that during the week I could clear all the Lab caches currently in Lincolnshire.. an easy way to get my cache numbers up).
There were two sets of Lab caches that I had my eye on for this trip, the Whitham Valley Abbeys caches on the way out, calling at Horncastle and Woodhall Spa, and then the Water Valley Railway caches back into Lincoln

2nd August 2021 – Whitham Valley Abbeys Lab Cache – Barlings Abbey – cache #5379
I must admit, I do like to see an odd piece of ruin in a field, though sometimes it does make you wonder how come just an odd corner of building has been left standing for 500 years ?

2nd August 2021 – Historic Horncastle Lab Cache – Stanhope Memorial – cache #5380
A tour of the historic parts of Horncastle started in the market place

2nd August 2021 – Whitham Valley Abbeys Lab Cache – Kirkstead Abbey – cache #5385
Kirstead Abbey has both an odd corner of a building in the middle of a field and a church as well

2nd August 2021 – Wander around Woodhall Spa Lab Cache – Kinema in the Woods – cache #5386
Woodhall Spa, the history here is mainly to do with WWII, the Cinema in the woods was showing films in the war years

2nd August 2021 – Wander around Woodhall Spa Lab Cache – Cottage Museum – cache #5387

2nd August 2021 – Wander around Woodhall Spa Lab Cache – Dambuster Memorial They Died for Your Freedom – cache #5388.
Ive been here before, cache #2736 has a very similar picture, being a virtual cache at the memorial

2nd August 2021 – Wander around Woodhall Spa Lab Cache – Woodhall Spa Village Sign – cache #5389

2nd August 2021 – Wander around Woodhall Spa Lab Cache – Petwood Hotel Bouncing Bomb – cache #5390
You would think that a genuine Dambusters Bouncing Bomb would be preserved a bit better than this, which looks like an old abandoned roller rusting away unwanted at the side of a cricket pitch

2nd August 2021 – REALLY SideTracked – Water Railway Lab Cache – Woodhall Junction – cache #5391
The Water Rail Way now cycle track that runs along the line of the former Lincoln to Boston railway, the cycle path runs from just outside Woodhall Spa back into Lincoln
The Lab caches are at the former stations.

2nd August 2021 – REALLY SideTracked – Water Railway Lab Cache – Stixwold – cache #5392
Stixwold, Stixwould… not a typing error, but one of those places with two equally acceptable ways of spelling the name

2nd August 2021 – Whitham Valley Abbeys Lab Cache – Tupholme Abbey – cache #5393
A whole wall of this building is still standing

2nd August 2021 – REALLY SideTracked – Water Railway Lab Cache – Southrey – cache #5394

2nd August 2021 – Anglers Crossing GC14Z0T – cache #5395
I wasn’t really looking for physical caches… but as I was here anyway it would have been rude not to look for this one.
Base of post… base of sign… one sign on each platform each with 2 posts… took me 4 tries to find it !

2nd August 2021 – Whitham Valley Abbeys Lab Cache – Bardney Abbey – cache #5396
Nothing at all left here, just some rough ground covering the foundations

2nd August 2021 – REALLY SideTracked – Water Railway Lab Cache – Bardney – cache #5397

2nd August 2021 – REALLY SideTracked – Water Railway Lab Cache – Washingborough – cache #5398

2nd August 2021 – Whitham Valley Abbeys Lab Cache – Monks Road Abbey – cache #5399
This is a strange one these days, it would have been a ruin in a field a hundred years ago, but now is a ruin in a children’s play area on the outskirts of the city

2nd August 2021 – The Quiz night GC9AYP6 – cache #5400
The last night of Piratemania brought the quiz, which as usual the team with the most surreptitious googlers won !
