Now Thats… a Problem – Caches No. 704-709

16th August 2010 – Now Thats a 360 GC1QTGB – cache #704
Monday evening, and I set off to find the bonus cache to the Nessfield Round, but first I stopped off at this cache, which although is a roadside cache is actually quite difficult to do by car as the road for many hundreds of yards either side is narrow and bounded by high stone walls. I waited until I could see no cars and then pulled up and grabbed the cache fast, even then I was suprised by a couple of cyclists who came around the corner as I was blocking the road.
The cache was hidden under the bottom step of a stile, along with a bag of doggy doo’s… Why do people do that ? clear up responsibly after their dog and then instead of dealing properly with it just work of the out of sight out of mind principle ?

16th August 2010 – Nessfield Round Bonus Cache GC1E59V – cache #705
I was missing 3 of the numbers for the co-ordinates of this cache, but I had a full westerly co-ordinate so just followed the track back until I hit those figures and then looked for a hollow tree that matched the description, and there was the cache.
I was going to go onto some other local caches, but by now it was just too dark to try anywhere else.

18th August 2010 – Tax doesn’t have to be taxing. GC2DAXE – cache #706
A lunchtime trip out to find a new cache placed on the river bank. Should have been easy but it was fairly well hidden under the grass and weeds and brambles !

20th August 2010 – Alms cache GC2D631 – cache #707
Friday evening, and another new cache had appeared in my five mile zone, a cache set by a new cacher with a whole 10 caches under his belt. His co-ordinates put the cache in the middle of a field, but his clue said it was in the stones at the corner of a now derelict wall… I didn’t even bother taking my GPS out of the car to find the cache as the co-ordinates are at least 50 feet away from the cache.

20th August 2010 – Aged Traveller? GC21HR9 – cache #708
This is a puzzle cache that had exercised me for some time, until it struck me one morning in the shower (when I wasn’t really even thinking about the puzzle) that the answers were to do with the OS map numbers for the towns given in the clues… easy find after that, down a small country lane… I was suprised at the number of cars that came past while I was at the cache, including a Police car… I almost expected them to stop and ask what I was doing !

20th August 2010 – Fewston, we have a problem… GC276QZ – cache #709
The final cache was one that I had looked for when it had first been placed and had failed to find (mainly cos the co-ordinates had it in the next field !)
This time I jst followed the cachers trail through the undergrowth until I got to the end of the path and then I just examined every possibility of a hiding place until I found it.

700 Weekend – Caches No’s 690 – 703

15th August 2010 – Toby’s Tiny Treasure Trove GC1EQ7B – cache #690
Sunday, and another sunny day, so another afternoon spent caching. This time I had a plan to get to my 700th cache find, and had picked out a puzzle cache for it to be, so all I had to do was go out and find them.
The beginning of the afternoon was a trio of relatively easy drive-by’s on the Harrogate Bypass.
This first cache is quite easy to find, but quite dangerous too, it is hidden in the ivy on a small hawthorn tree, and is about 4 foot above the ground so you have to dodge about the branches a bit hunched over to spot the cache, then when you see it you immediately bend forward to reach it – and crack your head into the pointing bit of the wooden Public Footpath sign which has sneaked up on you unaware while you were dodging around the branches ! Long Lunchtimes and the Nessfield Round – Caches No’s 677-689

Monday, and I was alone in the office so decided that lunchtime could go on for a little longer than it’s really supposed to, so that allowed me to have a little stroll across the moors to reach a couple of caches that are really outside the range of lunchtime caches, but hey, while the cats away and all that !

9th August 2010 – Lonely Tree GC1P4VA – cache #677
I hadn’t got my normal GPS with me, so I was caching using just my mobile phone which fortunately has a built in GPS receiver, so running an app called c:geo I set off for the first cache. The GPS on the phone takes a while to lock on to the signal so I set out across the moors in the direction I knew to go in from looking at the aerial photographs on Google. And I’m looking on the moor for a cache at a ‘Lonely Tree’ – shouldn’t be too hard to find even without a GPS really ! Continue reading
