Where has tha’ bin since I saw thee ? – Caches No’s 481 – 490

14th May 2010 – Burley’s Crack GC1R8X8 – cache #481
A pleasantly warm Friday night, what better to do than go for a walk over the moors ? In this case obviously Ilkley moor, a place with a large number of caches that I seem to have been avoiding up until now. I had looked at the caches on the map and tentatively divided the moor up into 4 sections where the caches could be done in reasonably circular walks. This was the first of the sections, the moor above Burley.

When you walk up to this first cache you get to a rocky cliff, and if you look closely you can see the cache – well you can see the stones camouflaging the cache at least, in a crack in the rocks behind a tree, about 8 feet above your head… and about halfway up the cliff. The problem is how to get up there. It’s not the sort of place you can easily see a way to climb up to. Continue reading

L’escargots – Caches No’s 469 – 480

10th May 2010 – The Weston World, The Weston Walk GC14F0A – cache #469
I did the feeder caches for this 6 weeks or so ago, but couldn’t find this cache as it had seemingly disappeared down a rabbit hole. As it had been replaced the day before I thought a quick evenings caching was called for to show appreciation for the hider by logging it straight away.
It was inside a hollow tree which had at least two rabbit holes in it, now it’s under some rocks at the side of the tree Continue reading

Woodhall Wander – Caches No’s 461 – 468

May 9th 2010 – Curse of the FTF Leeds # 7 – Woodhall Lake GC26QC8 – cache #461
After spending 8 days away and almost 9 hours driving home from Inverness on Saturday the only thing to do on Sunday morning was go caching !
Fortunately a new set of caches had been put out that looked suitable, 7 caches on a walk of under 2 miles with an additional one that was only a few hundred yards of detour. It was this additional one that I started with.
Not quite where the hint said it would be (the hint said in the gap between two logs and it was actually under the outside of one of the logs) but easy enough to find. Continue reading

Is It A Monster ? – Caches No’s 443 – 460

May 7th 2010 – Monster Drive – Invermoriston GC1PAKR – cache #443
Last day of our week in Scotland, and everyone was having a chilling day as it was going to be a long drive home, so Angel78 and I decided to take a drive right around the lake to see if we could find the monster… or at least some caches !
I missed the parking for this as there was a lorry turning into the entranceway, so had to drive down to the village, turn round, drive back past the cache, turn round again a couple of miles down the road and then stop in the right place… Then a family came walking up the path and stopped for a chat to each other So I had to hang around for a few minutes pacing up and down and looking over the wall. What’s That Coming Over The Hill ? – Caches No’s 431 – 442

May 1st 2010 – Motorway Mayhem – M74 J5(version 2) GC1HAWA – cache #431
Heading North for a weeks holiday by Loch Ness with Angel78 and a bunch of friends, we stopped overnight in the Holiday Inn at Hamilton. Putting the GPS on in the Hotel room it said we were 121 feet away from the nearest cache, so in the morning before we left we went around the back of the hotel to find it. Not exactly in a very nice place, stuck on the back of a Fire Assembly Point sign on a verge that was covered in dumped rubbish. Continue reading
