Caches No’s 3400 to 3426 – The Way Back Home From Ayr

The day after the mega we decided that while in Ayr we ought to visit Alloway (an Ayr suburb) and the area’s most famous son… Ayrshire is proud to be the birthplace of Robert Burns, Scotland’s National Bard. Globally revered, Burns’ works are renowned for their portrayals of everyday 18th Century life, his love for the “Lassies” and his staunch belief in the equality of Man… The whole Burns thing is a bit like Stratford and Shakespeare, though Burns has a bigger Heritage Centre ! Caches No’s 3388 to 3399 – The UK Mega Event 2014 – Ayrshire and Arran

The third UK mega I have been to, the first was cache #2000, the second cache #2750… I suppose I really should have made more of an effort to get this years Mega to be cache #3400 as I have worked hard in previous years to get Mega caches to be round numbers (Halloween last year was #3000) I did look briefly about 5 weeks beforehand at making the Mega #3500 but as I am still suffering from not being able to walk far it would have involved a lot of petrol and a lot of trips getting 10 – 12 caches a time to get to #3500… maybe by the Halloween mega this year, 12 weeks to get 75 caches doesn’t seem to hard… maybe I should go for 3600 or even 3750 as the Halloween target

Caches No’s 3377 to 3387 – The Seven Souvenirs Of Ayr

Last August Geocaching.com came up with this idea of giving you a ‘souvenir’ (basically a virtual sticker on your GC.com profile) for every day in August that you found a cache… this was stupid as far as I was concerned so I deliberately cut down on caching during August 2013 to avoid getting these souvenirs.
This year for the August promotion they ran a thing called “The Seven Souvenirs Of August” to wit – “Find specific geocache types and earn six unique souvenirs for your geocaching profile. Once you earn all six, you’ll be among the super-cachers that unlock a special seventh souvenir.”

This still wouldn’t have had any appeal to me except that the UK Mega Event was in Ayr on 2nd August, so on Friday 1st August I had a 250 mile drive to do… Could it be possible to get all the Different cache types and get all the Souvenirs on day 1 of August ? of course it could, and it only took me about 30 extra miles to do so. Caches No’s 3361 to 3375 – Church Micros North From King’s Lynn

My journey home was planned with 15 Church Micros. The first stop was in the village of Walpole St Peter which also has a YOSM that I had DNF’d on my way home the year before because it is not visible from the narrow road and there is nowhere to park anywhere nearby. But as I was stopping for the Church Micro I parked by the church and walked over half a mile along to the nearest access to the trig point. There must have been some sort of event going on in the village as the air was filled with the sounds of a band playing rock and blues music at a loud volume (The Yardbird’s ‘Good Morning Little Schoolgirl’ and Elvis’s ‘Little Sister’ were typical of the music while I was there), but I never found out what or where it was – certainly not visible from any road I walked or drove along. Caches No’s 3355 to 3360 – Saturday Caches in Downham Market

For once the camping weekend in Norfolk was in red hot weather, too hot for doing anything much but sitting around trying to keep cool, but we had to go off and get some food for the evenings barbecue so Angel78 and I went off to Downham Market… and so did Hublander & Beanie28, and Stucuk & TT, and while at the supermarket we made use of the 3 hours free parking in their car parks – so though we all went separately we all found the same town centre caches !
