Caches No’s 5949 to 5970 – West Mids Mega Day 1

On the Sunday I had done almost half of the caches I needed to find to get to my 6,000th, I was down to only needing 51, 17 a day, 3 sets of Labs and an event and I was there.

Monday, time to check out of the hotel near Bakewell, then drive over to Uttoxeter and check into the hotel there.

There was the usual Imp’s event to go to first, this time in Leek, and on my way over to Leek I got stuck in terrible traffic as the ‘Rock The Moor’ festival was emptying out, which was good for the Mega as some of the services (toilets, showers, generators) for the campsite were coming off the festival field and on to Uttoxeter.
I was not held up so much that I didn’t have time to go find a set of Labs at Tittesworth reservoir

This year the Imp’s event was held in the bandstand at Brough park in Leek, I was struggling a little with my leg as I had done a fair bit of walking the previous couple of days, so I wasn’t too impressed that the Bandstand was nowhere near either the Car Park or the town centre!

It seems that the West Midlands have gone for horseshoes for their Log sheets

1st August 2022 – A warm welcome to you all GC9MDXF – cache #5970
And finally we get to the Mega location itself, Uttoxeter is a pretty small place, The Mega was being held on the Racecourse, I had booked a room at the nearest hotel to the racecourse, and fortunately there was pedestrian access through the railway station straight into the racecourse.
The Welcome event was being held in Uttoxeter town centre, which was only a couple of hundred yards away from where I was staying… the Town Crier came and opened the event, then I headed into the nearby Wetherspoons for something to eat !
