Blackpool Pleasure Beach

1989 again this time, and a Summer’s day trip to Blackpool. I have been asked how I remember all these happenings from 20 years ago, and this perhaps is a good case in point… I remember only what happened in the photographs. I remember nothing about the day in Blackpool other then the time we spent in the pleasure beach except for one thing, I also remember the corner shop on the seafront where Andy Animal bought a tee-shirt printed with scrabble letters that could be rearranged into a well known phrase or saying – and I do have other photographs of him wearing that shirt at later events, so the link to it’s purchase is again tied up with photographs. Up the Lane – Caches No’s 259-260

Mar 10th 2010 – The start of the lane GC1FF15 – Cache #259
A sunny lunchtime and instead of going to the sandwich shop I went caching. I can see the cache site from my office window (though it is 3 miles away) It was a short walk back from the nearest safe parking spot, the cache is hidden behind a water main marker post, just where the road narrows and in full view of the house opposite… Just my luck that the householder came back in his car while I was signing the log so could clearly see me stood there looking suspicious outside his house ! 250 Up – Caches No’s 246 – 258

Mar 6th 2010 – Aireborough Panorama – Looking South GC1NGEY – Cache #246
This cache is on a footpath leading down from the Royalty pub, the path has a big high bank on one side – put there as protection as there is a clay pigeon shooting range there. However the path is covered in bits of clay pigeon, I wouldn’t fancy walking the path when they are shooting, you are safe from the gunshots, but obviously not too safe from the falling debris ! Looking For Percy – My Cache Hide No. 1

Mar 6th 2010 – Curse Of The FTF Wharfedale #9 – Looking for Percy GGC24NHA – My Cache #1
Following my being the FTF to find the Beechings Axe cache it was up to me to continue the series by hiding a cache. I’d been watching this series and expecting that I would get my turn eventually and so I had been getting a cache together ready to hide, I’d got box, logbook, pen, some trinkets to go inside, I had TB’s I could put in etc. etc. Continue reading

Cache No. 205 – Denso Marston Wildlife Park

Mar 5th 2010 – Denso Marston Wildlife Park GCT0F5 – Cache #245

I work about a mile from here, as it was a nice day I decided to go for a little walk at lunchtime and it seemed an opportune moment to find this cache. Of course I didn’t have my GPSR with me, so armed with only the positioning from the satellite photo and the hint I set out to find the cache… and I found it quite easily Continue reading

Messing about in boats

Another dip into the past brings us to one of my favourite days that we had back then, Just a day spent messing about in boats. The boats in question were two 20ft barges that we hired from a boatyard in Skipton one sunny Saturday. I’ve been trying to think of why I remember this one day so fondly, I mean it wasn’t a greatly exciting day, nothing thrilling happened, we just pottered along watching the world go by at 4mph… but just look at the pictures and you’ll notice everybody’s smiling, and that’s what made it such a good day.
