Caches Nos 180 to 190 – Mud on the tracks

A dry Saturday morning and apart from a bit of shopping I had to do I could spend the rest of the day caching. So I set off towards Ilkley to start off with a short multicache in the woods

November 7th 2009 – Yellow Brick RD 1 GC10Q39 – Cache #180
When you have a bearing but don’t know where paths are in woods you just have to set off in the direction you think is correct. This should have been the shortest path, but with steep muddy banks and areas of standing water it was neither the quickest or cleanest way to get from A to B.
As I was in a wood it was no surprise that the cache itself was hidden in the roots of a tree covered by a rock, at least it wasn’t a film cannister ! Continue reading

Bonfires, Fireworks & Marigolds

Top Farm near Wakefield was a venue we used several times in the late 1980’s, mainly for the JAC weekend camping events, but in 1988 it also hosted the Yorkshire Area Bonfire Bop.

Back in 1987 we had an event in Ilkley, while I was there this bloke came up to me and passed over a business card and told me to get in touch if we could make use of their services… The card was for “The Bang Brothers” Firework display experts. Postings delayed by gadgets !

Apologies for not posting as regularly as I’d promised over the last few days… I do have an excuse.
I finally got a sum of money I had been waiting for since July and so decided to blow some of it on a new mobile phone… the T-Mobile Pulse… running on the Android Operating system… and I’ve been playing with it ever since !

And why did I choose this phone ? well for the price it’s hard to beat… it has almost all the functionality of the iphone (some would say more) it has Wifi, 3G and built in GPS, and a screen the same size as the iphone (bigger than other Android phones) Continue reading

Airbeds, Car ‘Washing’ and Crazy Golf

For some reason almost all the Waffledale group were, if not keen, then at least willing to go camping.  Which was good cos there were a lot of camping events to go to… this particular one was called NAG (Not Another Gathering) and took the place of JAC in the Plus calendar for a few years.

NAG 1992 was held at Market Rasen racecourse… and I can’t actually remember that much about it because I did spend most of the weekend in an alcoholic daze (I do remember that much !)

So I’ll recount what I do remember.
I remember that I got there quite early and got the tent up, and then got drunk. I remember Gran had a new tent and I almost destroyed it by falling onto it, but managed not to do too much damage. I remember Nelly and Sherry had a new frame tent that they had bought and were very proud of… until the time came for them to put it up… Continue reading
