Caches No’s 3301 to 3306 – Driving Back Home

After dropping Angel78 off back home there was still daylight, and I wasn’t expected home until 10pm-ish  so I made a quick plan to get some more caches, my main ‘aim’ was to get a YOSM Trig Pillar at Hilton just to the West of Derby and in my GPS I had all the Church Micros in the area as well, so I looked at what was what and decided that there was an obvious route that got me a few more Church Micros as well as the YOSM

9th June 2014 – Church Micro 3732…Hatton GC4CK9T – cache #3301
I took the A38 for a bit and then made a detour to Hatton, parked in the car park of the nearby convenience store and walked across the road to the cache

YSM461 – Hoon Mount
This Trig Pillar is on top of an ancient monument, a bronze age burial mound. I parked as near as I could to the end of the Public Footpath leading to it from the West, as I got to the field with the barrow and pillar in I was a little concerned that in the field with the Pillar in there were cows with their very young calves, because they can be aggressive if they feel threatened, but fortunately they ignored me

A couple of miles from the Trig point is the village of Hilton, the cache was clearly visible from many yards away as the container is bigger than the hiding place !

Once I had got to the other side of Derby I detoured off the A38 again for a couple more churches, the first was a relatively quick find once I had beaten my way through the vegetation on the top part of the footpath leading down to it

9th June 2014 – Church Micro 5718…Kilburn GC53NYK – cache #3305
Although the description said that this is a busy spot and the previous finder said the log was full, at 8.00pm on a Monday evening and there was no-one about and a nice new log to sign

9th June 2014 – Church Micro 5159… Heath GC4XTH0 – cache #3306
After Kilburn I headed back to the A38 and from there onto the M1 and joined the slow traffic – the works to install the new central barrier are done at night so at 8:30 on a Monday the road is down to one single lane… I didn’t go far before I was bored of it and thought there was still enough light for one more cache. So I pulled off at the next junction and headed for the village of Heath. A muddy walk down to the GZ and a quick find (though it had been pushed almost too far in for my fingers to reach !)
Then back to the roadwork crawl up the M1
