Cache No. 157 – The Wench is Dead

October 17th 2009 –  The Wench is Dead  GCMPTC – Cache #157
A bit of a spooky one this… starts off in a churchyard in Rugeley Staffordshire at the grave of a murdered woman. A real murder that was also central to the Inspector Morse book (and TV episode) called ‘The Wench is Dead’.

I was just passing through Staffordshire, so I called upon Angel78 and together we went out to seek this cache.

A Gentlemans Evening

Twenty years ago this week two of the Waffledalers, Nelly & Sherry got married. I will cover weddings in a future post, but what I want to reminisce upon today is the Gentlemans Evening we had in Nelly’s honour, you know, the bachelor party… the stag night…

This particular one started out much like any other Waffledale stag, a minibus, self-drive hire, driven usually by yours truly, collects the revellers from their various pick up points and heads out into the night to our first watering hole. Continue reading

From Tea Shoppe to Shrubbery

So, one weekend in 1993 we found ourselves on top of the Malvern Hills. We had been brought there by Polska Paul, who was obviously of Polish descent, but came from Malvern and so took us up onto the hills he was familiar with.

We were actually staying in Newent, Gloucestershire for the weekend, at Nicholson House which was the headquarters of the Federation of 18 Plus Groups, and also had accommodation for 16 people. There will be more about Nick House in future posts.

Bin Liners For Sale

I can’t actually remember where the bin liner fashion first came from, but there was a time where Bin Liners were worn a lot. The picture here was taken at a party at Wendy-woo’s house in the winter of 93/94.

The Git for some reason has removed his trousers and is wearing a bin liner garter as well as a waste bin topped with a tea cosy on his head. Nookie has a pair of carrier bag underpants worn Superman style over his trousers and Malibu Mel has a drink in her hand… no surprise there then. Continue reading

WASH Memories

Every Autumn for well over 20 years I have traveled down to Hunstanton, famed for being the only West facing resort on the East coast, to spend the weekend at Searles Leisure Park to participate in an event called WASH.

Most of you will likely already know what WASH is all about as you will have joined me there a time or two, but for the others you’ll soon get to understand as you read the pages.

On this website you will find a year by year record of WASH – all found in the WASH section
There’s also an introductory page here… and for some of the stranger history you need to look here
So, grab yourself a cup of tea, click on a link and relive some memories !

As you go through the pages you will see that sometimes there are things missing, and sometimes there are things that are just plain wrong –  if there’s something missing, a booklet or Plus News report, and you have it and can add it to the collection then please email me with a scan and I’ll add it to the collection.

I have not left any names in the text, people are identified by just forenames, or nicknames. There are names in scans of documents and such, but these should not be searchable by web search-bots so your past life and guilty secrets are safe ! !

All comments are welcome… there’s a box to add comments on each page – these are moderated by me before anyone else can see them. Or you can email them to me direct on philip@pjbettis.co.uk
