Jen, being an adventurous soul had seen on the web that you could climb ‘The Big One’ – Europe’s tallest roller coaster, and decided she wanted to do it… so I volunteered to go with her (as I have no fear of heights it wasn’t an issue for me at all). As the climbing sessions all took place on a Friday evening we decided to book Friday off work and meet in Blackpool at lunchtime and see the sights, then stay overnight and go on the Pleasure beach to ride the rollercoasters the following day
12th April 2019 – Pier Pressure #5 : Blackpool South GC6NJHF – cache #4674
A puzzle cache at the pier, we quickly solved the puzzle and as we got near the coordinates there was not much doubt as to where the cache would be
12th April 2019 – Pier Pressure #16 – Blackpool Central GC7E2NG – cache #4675
It was a lovely sunny afternoon, great for walking on the seafront and Blackpool has a long seafront. The next cache was at the next pier, again it was easy to work out the coordinates and the cache was quickly found as it was hidden in exactly the same way as the first
12th April 2019 – Pier Pressure #15 – Blackpool North GC7E2KT – cache #4676
I’ve been to Blackpool many a time, and driven, rode the tram and walked up and down the front many times, but I’d never noticed the War memorial before today.
From the Memorial we quickly got the answers and worked out the co-ordinates and as we’d already done the caches on the other piers we could see from a long way away where the coordinates were taking us to.
But we couldn’t find the cache… reading through the past logs we saw why, the cache isn’t in it’s proper position, but similarly hidden on the other side of the pier – whether by accident or design we didn’t know so we left it where we found it
12th April 2019 – The Big One GC83PFF – cache #4677
We had an event to celebrate climbing the rollercoaster, attended by the people who had come to support us, and one other cacher, who was only there in spirit as at the time of the event she was climbing up The Big One herself in a later party
After this I didn’t find GC2606B Do You Know Your Earth from Uranus ? A cache I would have ignored had I been there during the day because it was supposedly under the railings around a kids play area – not the sort of place a single middle aged man is going to spend time searching.. but because it was 7:45pm we could have a good root around, but we couldn’t find the cache
12th April 2019 – Codie’s having a ball GC2606B – cache #4678
Last find of the day on Blackpool seafront – we signed the log ‘Team Big One’ in recognition of the climb
24th April 2019 – Leeds Drinks and Chat 16 GC85MWE – cache #4679
A couple of weeks later there was the regular Leeds meeting which I wen to and even got there reasonably early for me, there was 30 minutes of the event left rather than my usual 10 minutes.
It too was held at the seaside (?) well in the Scarborough Hotel… opposite coast to Blackpool
