BR Otley Trail

It was a nice sunny afternoon and up popped a new series of caches just a couple of miles from home… so I set out to find them… Cache 1 was weird, the coords seemed to be in the middle of a field where a tree was fenced off with wooden rail and barbed wire – a fair way from the path at the edge of the field
Cache 2 well I just couldn’t find it, Cache 3 again nothing seemed evident with a hint that a million places matched, and cache 4 was basically looking for a needle in a haystack.
As I walked back along to my car I me Aldocandy who couldn’t find any of them either – and neither could 3 other very experienced cachers who tried that day
I did wonder whether the caches were even out, I mean it wouldn’t be the first time that a Reviewer had been so quick on the ball that the listings were there before the caches.

So I went home and emailed the CO, yes the caches were out, and she gave me some more clues of what I was looking for and so next day I went out again – and below are the logs I put on the cache pages…

BR Otley Trail 1 – GC7Y55Y
Having swapped messages with the CO and seen the new hints I tried this series again today.
I know what and where this cache is, but it is impossible for me to reach without being on the other side of barbed wire from the path
– Okay it is very easy to get onto the other side of the barbed wire, but crossing fences to find caches is not something I do

So this is a Did Not Attempt, not a DNF

BR Otley Trail 2 – GC7Y55C
Second visit… within 5 mtrs of the coords there are three possible places meet the new hint, I couldn’t find a cache at any of them (again)
A second DNF from me

BR Otley Trail 3 – GC7Y54V
A second DNF from me… even armed with the new hint and a description of what I was looking for from the CO.
The hint has two parts, I couldn’t find instances of both of them, but not any location where I would say they were together…
Also since I was here yesterday there have been 4 other cachers searching and it looks like it has all been well searched, the cache may have got hidden under the twigs/moss/stones/leaves that have been disturbed and moved around by the previous hunters

BR Otley Trail 4 – GC7Y56P
And finally a second DNF from me… I haven’t found the whole series twice !
With the new hint and some further information from the CO I know what the cache is, and roughly where it is hidden, but given a haystack with a needle in I could say the same thing !
It is a nice walk and I have got my 10,000 steps in on two days with this series, but with 2 finds and 9 DNF’s (other than my 7 DNF’s) it seems like the caches are hidden too well

==================

A few days later, after a few more DNF’s the series was found, by a relatively new cacher, who on closer inspection of his cache history had never found a cache when the CO wasn’t present – so we assume he was with the CO this time too…
The caches and hints have been made easier and lots of people have found the caches now, but I haven’t bothered going back to try them again
