Caches No’s 4409 to 4420 – Westward Ho !, Devon Mega Pt 3

2017 Mega, Day 4

Longest drive of the week (well apart from the journey home from the Mega) 70 miles from the South Devon coast to the North Devon coast. Unsurprisingly this was the least supported event of Mega week too, and of my ‘gang’ only Alison ‘&Ruby’ fancied it.3rd August 2017 – DM17: A day at the beach (Thu 3rd Aug) – GC6X3F9 – cache #4409
A windy day, and a long drive to do just a few beach caches

3rd August 2017 – Drift Log – GC46M9D – cache #4410
It wasn’t a pleasant day for a stroll – more like standing in front of an industrial sandblaster at times ! So we only did a few caches around the golf course

3rd August 2017 – DM17 How did that get there? – GC79T23 – cache #4411
Dodging the rain showers as well as the wind

3rd August 2017 – Tidal Ponds – GC46MAQ – cache #4412
There was another cache about half a mile further along the coast, but it really wasn’t nice walking in the wind so we turned back to the visitors centre where the event team had set up shop

3rd August 2017 – In memory of Grumpy ………….. – GC46M8P – cache #4413
I quite liked this cache – sitting on the bench signing the log with the golfers tee-ing off straight towards you on the par 3 – and the balls do come straight at you !

3rd August 2017 – Westward Ho! Pebble Ridge. – GC31H53 – cache #4414
An earthcache about the longshore drift of the pebble ridge here – it was nice to meet GoldenHaystack the CO at the new ‘Passing Place’ cache just down the road.

3rd August 2017 – DM17 Watch for the birdie! – GC79T07 – cache #4415

3rd August 2017 – DM17 Passing Place – GC79RZG – cache #4416
Passing Place ? more like a car park with all the cars queueing to stop for the cache !

3rd August 2017 – 150 Years and Counting – GC51W9F – cache #4417
A sneaky cache in the entrance to the Golf Club, I’m not sure it really is a place they want lot’s of people tramping over their nice mown grass to, so we waited until the coast was clear to grab it

3rd August 2017 – DM17 Welcome to Westward Ho! – GC7RXP – cache #4418
You know with a name like that the cache is going to be on the back of the town sign – or very nearby

3rd August 2017 – A Fine Pair # 659 ~ Kilkhampton – GC6P2DX – cache #4419
Coming home we decided that we needed to fill in the county map by getting a cache in Cornwall so we looked for the first ‘interesting’ cache in the county – and not wanting to do Amberleigh’s D5 tree climbs we decided on the first Fine Pair cache in Cornwall

3rd August 2017 – Meet Project-GC in the United Kingdom – GC721A4 – cache #4420
The Mega organisers had got the man behind Project GC, Magma-1447, to come over from Sweden to do a talk at the Mega, and to get people to the talk had made it an ‘official’ event, with a smiley for attending.
I don’t use all the features of Project-GC myself, but it was an interesting talk
