Cache No’s 1888 to 1890 – Odd Ones at Ilkley

A fine Sunday… and not raining for once, so I thought I’d go and find the odd local cache I haven’t already got a smiley face for.

8th July 2012 – Nessfield round 1812 reprise GC2M60K – cache #1888
The last time I came here this cache was missing, so I didn’t bother looking for it, however I do remember where it should have been, so went there to find the cache only for my GPS to tell me I was still 30 odd feet away. so I had to wander off into the bog left by all the rain and eventually spotted the cache hanging on the fence. The log was more wet than just damp – in fact it was almost as soggy as the path leading to the cache !

I’ve both found and not found this cache before, found it as the previous incarnation and failed to find this one, it took me an age to find it this time, and there aren’t many places you can hide a cache when you just have a gate in a wall and a hint that tells you which end of the gate to look at !

8th July 2012 – Rip Van Winkle GC3N1W9 – cache #1890
This is a multicache that I made the mistake at first of parking by the given co-ordinates…. only to find after walking to the spot that the cache wasn’t particularly near here and the advised parking spot was almost a mile away… so I wen’t back to my car and drove to the proper place ! There I found a set of numbers that when combined with the given co-ords gave me the actual co-ordinates of the cache… which turned out to be deep in Middleton Woods

It was a bit of a slog getting to the cache, the woods were just one big bog and more slippy than if the whole place was frozen over… and not knowing where the paths were going meant I was wandering about in circles a bit trying to find a route going in the right direction… Eventually I got to 150ft from the cache, but was stuck with a stream in front of me and seemingly nowhere around that the ground was firm enough to stand on… but finally I spotted a way over the stream and soon made my way up the banking on the other side.
From there I just had the task of finding the cache to complete, which took me quite a while, but eventually I spotted it between the branches
