Caches No’s 953 to 960 – Norfolk Sunday

7th November 2011 – Village Life – Castle Rising GC28MEB – cache #953
Sunday, and again I had a couple of hours to fill, so again I went for a drive around the villages caching, Castle Rising is an old village with a nearby castle, and a village green, which has on it a war memorial and a couple of trees. in the roots of one of the trees, hidden by a stone, is a largish pine cone, which has a micro-cache inserted into it

7th November 2011 – Norfolk Haunts – All Saints, Fring GC1AXWG – cache #954
Another village church and a tree stump hiding a cache, it was a little more difficult to find than you might expect as I was looking for a clip-lock box or similar, and disregarding the apparent litter, but the cache turned out to be a dented and rusting tin

7th November 2011 – Norfolk Haunts -Pedders Way – The crossing GC1AXW4 – cache #955
Ouch, ouch and thrice ouch. A cache left out in the open by the base of a bush in a hedge bottom, trouble is the hedge was about 8ft wide and made of hawthorn bushes, so it was a case of pushing through the thorns to get to the cache, painful and I still have scratches on my head to prove the fiendishness of the thorns

7th November 2011 – Norfolk Haunts -Ringstead Colours GC1Z7RQ – cache #956
A puzzle cache that I had not looked at let alone solved, instead, as I was driving down the road I saw Hublander’s car coming the other way and he turned onto a side road and I went past the end of said side road and saw he had stopped a few yards down, so I reversed back to the junction and turned in to pull up behind him. It turned out Beanie28 had solved the puzzle and they had stopped to get the cache, I pretended that was what I was there for too and followed them back to the signpost to find the cache.
After that we had a little conflab comparing notes about the caches we had done and went our separate ways

7th November 2011 – Church Micro 1323- St Andrews Ringstead GC2E094 – cache #957
This was the cache I hadn’t been able to get to for the gardeners the previous day, there were only some children playing nearby today so it was easy to get the cache from the bush base it was hidden in

7th November 2011 – I can see the Sea!! GC2E09N – cache #958
A cache I couldn’t find the day before, but Beanie28 had and in our conflab they had told me where to look (basically some better co-ordinates) and I found the cache straight away… and I could see the sea very clearly

7th November 2011 – Church Micro 623: Burnham Norton GC1QB0E – cache #959
The last couple of caches in the area were in the village of Burnham a few miles to the East, two church micro’s, the first one a 35mm film container hidden at the base of a signpost on a church quite a way out of the village

7th November 2011 – Church Micro 231 Burnham Overy Town GC1AF4M – cache #960
And the last one a church in the middle of the village. This was a little more taxing as it involved finding a particular memorial plaque and from the details on the plaque calculating the co-ordinates of the final cache. Several people had logged not being able to find the plaque easily (or at all) but my conversation with Hublander had given me the clue as to where it was – basically you walk past it on the way into the church yard, so turn around at the gate and you find it straight away !
Then there was a convenient bench in the graveyard to sit on and work out the calculation. The co-ordinates led down onto the well manicured village green, I was quite surprised that there was a cache there as the green was a) very small b) obviously mowed regularly and c) the flower beds were obviously well tended by the locals, – but the cache was there, under a little stone at the side of the war memorial
