Caches Nos 180 to 190 – Mud on the tracks

A dry Saturday morning and apart from a bit of shopping I had to do I could spend the rest of the day caching. So I set off towards Ilkley to start off with a short multicache in the woods

November 7th 2009 – Yellow Brick RD 1 GC10Q39 – Cache #180
When you have a bearing but don’t know where paths are in woods you just have to set off in the direction you think is correct. This should have been the shortest path, but with steep muddy banks and areas of standing water it was neither the quickest or cleanest way to get from A to B.
As I was in a wood it was no surprise that the cache itself was hidden in the roots of a tree covered by a rock, at least it wasn’t a film cannister !

November 7th 2009 – Yellow Brick RD 2 GC10Q3B – Cache #181
The second of the set was hidden a few hundred yards away in some rocks, In summer I have no doubt the foilage hides the cache site from the nearby road, but in Autumn there is little cover and anyone walking up the road can see you signing the log

November 7th 2009 – Off Yer Trolley / SideTracked Ilkley GC1KX07 – Cache #182
The car park in Ilkley was once the platforms of Ilkley station, there used to be 4 tracks but since the 60’s there have only been two and the rest of the station is a car park. Walking up into the car park from the road I had a low viewpoint and could see what I thought was the cache on the platform fence, it turned out to be a small magnetic container, the cache.

November 7th 2009 – Radio Stainburn ! GC1FT7T – Cache #183
In the afternoon I headed out again, the first stop of the afternoon was a nearby hill which has an old radio mast on it, We used to know it as “The thing you can see from everywhere” but I have never been to the bottom of it before. The cache was hidden in some rocks just off the main track, easy to find as there is a ‘cachers path’ from the track showing you the way
At this cache I collected the Travelbugs TBJC9M – Bully and TBB2B4 – Purdy – Golden Eagle
At this cache I dropped off the Travelbugs Dylan and Billy the Boar

November 7th 2009 – Silica Sands … Blubberhouses GCVXF7 – Cache #184
On my way between caches I had a look for GCWB2H WHO’S SHARP, but it is hidden in a large patch of gorse that has grown larger over the year and I didn’t fancy looking too hard !
Silica Sands is in an abandoned quarry, easy to find as again there is a cachers path from the parking spot through the undergrowth to the cache

November 7th 2009 – Bolton Abby View GC1F1CX – Cache #185
This one was harder to find as I was looking for a place with a view of the Abbey… unfortunately as the picture shows, this isn’t possible at the cache site.

November 7th 2009 – Rachel’s Rest Spot GC1QAK5 – Cache #186
There is a large hill near Bolton Abbey called Beamsley Beacon, One would imagine this to be the site of warning beacons in earlier years. This cache is on the way up the hill (I didn’t bother climbing further as it was starting to rain and the visibility was getting poor) The headline picture is of this cache.
At this cache I collected the Travelbug TBA2FE – Claude the Crab and the geocoinTB1G8A7 – Geo-Kate’s Cache A Day Geocoin
At this cache I dropped off the Geocoin Dunk090’s Garmin Visit UK – London Eye Geocoin

November 7th 2009 – Nessfield Round 5 GC1E57Q – Cache #187
November 7th 2009 – Nessfield Round 4A GC1PGJJ – Cache #188

A quick drive by caching finds the two roadside caches of this set… one day I’ll come back and do the full walk round.

November 7th 2009 – A View over Ilkley GC1QAXE – Cache #189
Another drive by cache, guarded by some very nosy horses… I guess they are used to their owner coming along to feed them at the gate where you park for the cache

November 7th 2009 – Bath Street mystery GC1YF0D – Cache #190
On the way back into Ilkley I stopped off to try and find GC13HDG Oli’s Birthday Cache, but the co-ordinates have it in the middle of the river and it was getting a bit too dark to search the undergrowth on the river bank, so I passed on it for later.
Bath Street mystery is a magnetic nano cache and wasn’t much of a mystery at all as when you know what you are looking for you can see it from 20 yards away !
