2017 Mega Day 5
Beer… a seaside village in Devon, only a few miles away from the Bicton Mega site, and you have to think that the event name ‘Swimming in Beer’ was thought of before the logistics of the event were even considered.
You see to have an event on a beach you don’t want a lot of ‘public’ around, so it had to be at 7:00 to 7:30am, and Beer doesn’t have a beach, it just has a steep pebble bank which is difficult to walk on as you sink into the pebbles at each step and pebbles are very uncomfortable to walk on4th August 2017 – DM17: Swimming in Beer (Fri 4th Aug) – GC6X3ER – cache #4421
An early morning dip – but those stones really are painful to walk on
Still I did swim in the sea at Beer – and then went back to the hotel for Breakfast !
4th August 2017 – will you be here on the 5th August 2017? (DM17) – GC67BR – cache #4422
A cache at the gates of Bicton College, I’d come through these gates at least twice each way every day so eventually it was time to go and find the cache. Found with CoinKezza and &Ruby
4th August 2017 – DM17 Roadside Detritus – Yellow Reflectors – GC761FM – cache #4423
As the event had been so early in the morning we had the rest of the day to fill, and not wanting another long drive we decided to do the cache series set up right by the college grounds.
I went caching with CoinKezza (K), &Ruby (A) and Hedgehog Mum (A) – I added (P) to the team so all logs were signed some variation of ‘Team PAAK’ (APAK, KAAP, AAPK, KAPA, PAKA, KPAA etc etc)
4th August 2017 – DM17 Roadside Detritus – Lifting strap – GC761FG – cache #4424
Roadside detruitus was caches that looked like stuff dumped at the side of the road…
4th August 2017 – DM17 Roadside Detritus – Thrown from a window? – GC761FD – cache #4425
…or rubbish thrown out of car windows…
4th August 2017 – DM17 Roadside Detritus – White Catseye 2 – GC761FC – cache #4426

The animal series was much more obvious, caches with Animal containers

4th August 2017 – Little Bridge #1186 – Stowford, Devon (DM17) – GC761EY – cache #4430
In the middle of the cache loops was this pre-existing cache, that must have got more finds on it this week than it could ever have hoped to get in it’s lifetime had it not been near the venue

4th August 2017 – Permutations – GC5YKAR – cache #4437
Kerry insisted that we took a detour from the walk route to get this cache, a ‘field puzzle’ cache that required you to find the combination of the lock to open the cache, the secret was to use something magnetic – we used a penny
4th August 2017 – DM17 Roadside Detritus – Wheelie bin – GC761G7 – cache #4438
Not sure that this huge container really fit in with the rest of the ‘roadside’ caches, being a toy not a piece of scrap
4th August 2017 – DM17 Roadside Detritus – Heater Hose – GC761G3 – cache #4439
4th August 2017 – DM17 Roadside Detritus – White Catseye – GC761FY – cache #4440
They had obviously run out of containers so had repeated the catseyes

Last of the series
4th August 2017 – DM17: Ukelele night (Fri 4th Aug) – GC6Z5TE – cache #4442
The evenings event had originally been some external entertainment, but when that fell through we got a load of cachers and their ukuleles, anyone who had brought a ukulele with them could get up and join the band.
An entertaining night – the more I drank the better it sounded !
