Caches No’s 4388 to 4408 – The War Horse Ramble, Devon Mega Pt 2

2017 Mega, Day 3
Parsonage Farm just outside Iddesleigh on Dartmoor is the farm around which the book War Horse by Michael Morpurgo was set, and the daytime activity for the Wednesday of Mega Week was a trip to the farm which now has a warhorse museum and a new cache series.
Groundspeak set up new rules on holding events which restricted the proximity of events both in distance and time basically to stop people holding a flash mob at one end of a series, doing the series and then holding another event at the end of the series and getting higher numbers of smileys for spurious events.
However this impacts on the supporting events for Megas which meant that there could not be an ‘official’ event for this activity and that kept numbers at the event down – we will have to make sure our Mega next year isn’t affected by this

2nd August 2017 – 28 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76YHM – cache #4388
A walk with &Ruby around half the series after the rain had stopped at the War Horse Devon Mega event.
The series was another puzzle series, this time in the shape of a horses head, &Ruby had worked out the answers and got the co-ordinates, I was just along for the walk

2nd August 2017 – 27 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76YE0 – cache #4389

2nd August 2017 – 26 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76YAN – cache #4390

2nd August 2017 – 25 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76W5W – cache #4391

2nd August 2017 – 24 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76VZ4 – cache #4392

2nd August 2017 – 23 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76VXC – cache #4393

2nd August 2017 – 29 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76Z5G – cache #4395
The walk, when done fully consists of a couple of loops but we were only doing one and doing the series backwards at that, so our numbering is not as consecutive as it could be !

2nd August 2017 – 30 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76Z5Y – cache #4396

2nd August 2017 – 31 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76Z68 – cache #4397

2nd August 2017 – 34 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76Z8M – cache #4400

2nd August 2017 – A Fine Pair # 831 ~ Iddesleigh (DM17) – GC75GPF – cache #4401
It was a bit like Picadilly circus with teams of cachers hanging around waiting for their turn to find the numbers to calculate the final coordinates… not sure &Ruby got the maths quite right, but we spotted the cache in the hands of other cachers so we found it very easily !

2nd August 2017 – Church Micro 10838…Iddesleigh (DM17) – GC75BDW – cache #4402
A quick trip around the churchyard to find clues in gravestone inscriptions

After this we didn’t find GC76CQP – 6 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17), we spent ages looking in the hedge, as did a couple of other groups who passed, and one who stopped the car to look where they had found it earlier in the day, but it wasn’t there

2nd August 2017 – 5 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76CPW – cache #4403

2nd August 2017 – 4 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76CPK – cache #4404

2nd August 2017 – 3 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76CP8 – cache #4405

2nd August 2017 – 2 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76CNE – cache #4406

2nd August 2017 – 1 War Horse Country Ramble (DM17) – GC76C7F – cache #4407
And back to the farm to finish off the walk

2nd August 2017 – DM17: Caribbean Night (Wed 2nd August) – GC74T1B – cache #4408
Wednesday evening was another night in the Marquee, with Steel Band and themed food.
I really enjoyed the Goat Curry, but let others do the limbo dancing – I wonder if we can get a goat curry Caribbean Night for our Mega next year ?
