Caches Nos. 145 to 156 – The Trip to Jerusalem, I mean Nottingham

I was offered the chance of a free night out in Nottingham, with Dinner Dance and Hotel room all included… so I called up Angel78 and we had a night out and then did some caching in the city centre the next day. and of course there was time for grabbing a few caches on the journeys

October 3rd 2009 –  Motorway Mayhem M1 Woolley Edge Services Southbnd  GC1J0BM – Cache #145
A quick service station stop on the motorway, you might think it looks a bit suspicious wandering off into the undergrowth but the drivers are too intent on getting back onto their journeys to take much notice of you

October 3rd 2009 –  BPJC: M1 Junction 29: Pauls Pirate Cache  GC1VGRC – Cache #146
This is in a strange place being actually on the island in the middle of a motorway junction roundabout, fortunately there are tunnels to get you onto the island, so there’s no playing chicken with the cars to find it.
This cache is part of a series where the finder can change the name when he logs the find, it was ‘Paul’s Pirate Cache’ when I found it… I asked it to be changed to ‘Tyrannosarus Rex’ in keeping with my Geocaching user name.. but it was visited again the next day so it’s name was change then to ‘Caching with Ketts’ before my name had chance to be used.
From this cache I collected the Travelbug TB2R252 – emCache racer – Emo the Fast Fish

October 3rd 2009 –  Mostly Haunted – The Green Lady  GC11ZQ4 – Cache #147
In the ruins of a chapel, in an old graveyard… not a cache to visit at night perhaps

October 4th 2009 –  City of Nottingham Cache Series – Theatre Royal  GCZ0ZG – Cache #148
The next day I was out caching with Angel78 and we found it a little dispiriting that so many of the caches were missing. We couldn’t find the first one we looked for – GC1Q6VA – City of Nottingham Cache Series – Market Square, even though the last log entry was that it had been replaced after going missing. This one was easy enough to find and still there.

October 4th 2009 – Bag a Nano  GC17XM6 – Cache #149
A small magnetic nano on a bridge railing with a long drop underneath… not one to be enjoyed by those scared of heights !

October 4th 2009 – City of Nottingham Cache Series – Castle Rock  GCYRB2 – Cache #150
My hundred and fiftieth cache, and the first that didn’t have a rigid container, just a plastic wallet to keep it thin I suppose.
From here we walked down past the oldest pub in the country the famous “Trip to Jerusalem“, however it was only 11.30am and a bit early to go and have some refreshment.

October 4th 2009 – Hunting for the Troublesome ‘triO’ #9  GC17080 – Cache #151
On my GPS there aren’t enough spaces to put all the letters of the cache title when it is this long, so we didn’t know which of the series we were heading to… Fortunately there was somewhere to sit at the cache site while we went through all the descriptions of the caches in the series to find which one matched where we were so we could find the hint. Maybe I should change programmes on the PDA to one that shows the GC number as well as the cache name, then we would have known where we were

October 4th 2009 – City of Nottingham Cache Series – Canalside  GCYRAX – Cache #152
A simple find once we’d worked out which side of the canal it was on !

October 4th 2009 – Motorway Mayhem M1 Tibshelf Services  GCT6YX – Cache #153
After doing a bit of sightseeing down the Nottingham Caves (interesting and worth a visit if you are in the area) I left Angel78 and headed back up the motorway, stopping to grab another service station cache. You wouldn’t do this one if the Police cars were in their marked spaces as it’s overlooked by the Police cabin.

October 4th 2009 – Eccup Challenge #21  GC1TNVJ – Cache #154
I made a little detour on my way home to grab this one I had been forced to miss last weekend, and confirm my calculations for the Eccup Challenge Bonus cache.

October 4th 2009 – Rat Run 3  GC1441C – Cache #154
October 4th 2009 – Rat Run 2  GC13WEN – Cache #154
Two caches on a winding country road that is used as a rat run to avoid traffic… it’s amazing how many cars there were going up and down this road on a Sunday teatime. Rat Run 3 fools you by not being attached to the nice bench , but is in the bushes a few yards away. I couldn’t go Rat Run 1 as it is a short walk from the road and the parking spaces were all full of cars… another one to do when I go back for the Eccup Challenge Bonus Cache
