Church Micro 5816…Stainburn GC54QR3 – My Cache Hide #3

As there are virtually no Church Micros near me – 7 within 10 miles and none at all to the north of me for well NW sector 60 miles, N sector 31 miles and NE sector 23 miles I thought I ought to expand the series into Yorkshire. Taking the existing caches at Adel and Harewood as a jumping off point I can add North and West of there, the caches don’t have to be anything clever, just magnetic caches on signposts will do. I will have to wait until after the Tour De France goes through in the beginning of July to put some out as it goes on the main roads through Yorkshire, but I can plan !

13th May 2014 – Church Micro 5816…Stainburn GC54QR3 – my cache #3
The first cache I chose was this one just a few miles from me

St Mary’s Church, Stainburn, was built in the 12th century as a chapel of ease in the parish of Kirkby Overblow. It is constructed in gritstone rubble and has a graduated stone slate roof.
Except for the 17th Century additions of the porch and bellcote, and the vestry put on at the time of the 1894 building restoration its original Norman shape is retained as are the splendid Norman chancel arch and font inside. The roof dates from the late mediaeval period and the oak pews from c.1600. Having undergone only minimal restoration, St Mary’s remains an enchanting place of great antiquity.
It is a Grade 1 Listed Building and maintained by Churches Conservation Trust charity though no longer used as a regular place of worship.

I made it a multicache to get people to actually go into the churchyard rather than just grab the cache and run – with the final in a particularly prickly place (getting my own back on other cache hiders !)
