22nd December 2010 – Six Feet Under GC2KE0A – cache #1004
Another new cache placed not far away from work. The problem is that the cache was in the middle of a long stretch of riverbank path that is not particularly accessible, and it would have taken too much time to get to it by a ‘proper’ path… so I had to scramble down a steep banking… which wasn’t particularly easy as it had been snowing and the banking was not easy to climb down.
Then I got to the path along the river… and that was a nightmare, covered in ice and snow and no way really of knowing what sort of footing was available underneath, and the path is only a couple of feet wide and the river is a 3 foot drop off the edge.
Finding the cache when I got to the cache site wasn’t too hard, trouble is that there was a slight slope to negoiate from path to cache and that was a bit of a test in shoes with no grip. Fortunately there was a large tree right on the river bank at this point so I was at least safe from slipping back down into the river.
And then of course, when I had signed and replaced the cache, I had to walk back down the riverside path and climb back up the banking back to where the car was
