Caches No’s 6435 to 6478 – Piratemania 15 Part II

For Piratemania I was staying in the nearest place I could fins at a sensible price, which was a pub (the George) in Desborough, a village about 10 miles from Naseby which meant no alcohol and a 20 minute drive each way to get to and from Piratemania.
The pub also didn’t serve food, so no breakfast… but there was a McDonalds just down the road and a Co-op supermarket across the road from the pub, so breakfast wasn’t an issue.
On the Saturday, Piratemania day, I had a McDonalds breakfast and then headed off to Naseby

Piratemania is always the same, lots of folk dressed in pirate costumes, stalls selling geocaching and other merchandise, stalls selling food and drinks and everybody just has a lovely time… I have been to eight of them now, and the weather has always been pleasant – apart from the one in 2018 where I made a quick visit for just a few hours and so didn’t do any caching where it was very windy and had some heavy rain.
Naseby again was a lovely sunny day and again a good time was had by all.

As usual there were a set of physical lab cache puzzles set out for Piratemania… and many of them were the same ideas they have been using for years, but they are still fun to do.

Once the Lab Caches were done people were hanging around deciding what to do and a group of us decided to go and do a set of caches put out for the event.
The team comprised of FM1906 (Fiona), matthewgibbs (Matthew), Maerad (Wendy), Team e.2105 (Mark) and myself
Mark found the first cache

The third cache along the lane was the first cache of the new series… and I am fairly sure that the series should actually have been entitled “Pirate Thomas’s Wander”… one letter makes all the difference

Not all the caches were quick easy finds, this was an older cache which was attached to a fence, the problem was the fence was about 10ft from the path and the vegetation in between was head height.. Some other cachers were there looking for it with no success, but we found it (well I did)

The cache brought us back to the road, and where the patch joined the road were two benches in a quite relaxing spot, I decided that it was a great spot and I would come back to eat my Fish and Chips there later.

29th July 2023 – Pirates visit Naseby Lab Cache – The Regal Oak tree – cache #6468
As it was getting dark the night Lab Caches were released, so we all headed out of the marquee to do them, but first to get to one at the end of the line I had to go near an oak tree which had it’s own Lab cache

Then it was on to the Night Labs, again nothing really unusual, just similar ideas that had been done before, but fun for all that and the dark makes it more entertaining, with groups of torchlit people wandering around looking for caches
