Caches No’s 5020 to 5046 – GeoCoinFest Saturday

GeoCoinFest Europe is a traveling Mega event celebrating geocoins, tags, and trackables and made it’s way to celebrate in Manchester. This is an indoor event that is set up similar to a trade show where you will be immersed with activities, educational opportunities, and keep on top of the latest geocaching trends aimed at geocachers, families, and collectors.

7th September 2019 – GeocoinFest Europe 2019 GC7TTNT – cache #5020
Unlike the UK Megas European Mega events are funded by having an entry fee, and as the GeoCoinFest was a European Mega it had an entry fee which at it’s basic (entry and no goodie bag) was £5.
Now I have no interst in Geocoins so wasn’t going to pay to get in, so I just went to the Building foyer and signed the visitors log book.

7th September 2019 – Geocoinfest 2019 – Science Lab Cache 1 – cache #5021
They had 3 sets of Lab Caches put out for the event, one set, the science set were all in the main hall, but from the foyer I was in the range to do the first of them

7th September 2019 – Geocoinfest 2019 – Society Lab Cache 1 – Prehistoric Manchester – cache #5022
The Society lab cache set were all available from the foyer, and were all 4 question multiple choice so were basically rubbish.

7th September 2019 – Locked Up GC83K55 – cache #5032
The nearest cache to the GeoCoinFest venue, and easy enough to find

7th September 2019 – REALLY SideTracked – Manchester Central. GC7Z16K – cache #5033
As we were in the middle of the city the places for putting ‘real’ geocaches safely were few and far between, but with all the stone used in buildings there is a wide scope for earthcaches, like this one about the sandstone of the Central Station

7th September 2019 – Euhedral Crystals? GC5EEZJ – cache #5034
Another Earthcache, this one involving the formation of Crystals in igneous Granite of the Hotel wall… and here’s a picture of Matthew staring blankly at the wall !

7th September 2019 – URBAN EARTH – Peterloo GC8C9RY – cache #5035
And another Earthcache – this one a monument commemorating the Peterloo Massacre, made out of circles of different coloured and textured stone

7th September 2019 – Manchester Marble…. The Touchstone. GC2K9VY – cache #5036
One more earthcache for luck, a large amorphous lump of white marble which prompted the standard log response of Ooh-Err Missus, that’s a big’un

7th September 2019 – Geocoinfest 2019 – Science Lab Cache 2 – cache #5037
At this point I returned to the exhibition hall, still not prepared to pay to go in, there were more Lab Caches, but I had many friend inside who could provide me with answers.
On the door were Clare and Jeff and Iain, and they were taking no notice of me so I could have sneaked up the stairs.
Then Clare came over to me, stamped my hand, put a £5 note in the drawer and said “that’s for you” so in I went
Where the £5 had come from I don’t know, whether it was hers or she had found it somewhere or what I never found out, but in I went to do the rest of the Science lab caches, which were mostly things that required you to google answers to find out the answers

7th September 2019 – GEOCOINFEST – The Puzzle GC8C301 – cache #5046
A Jigidi jigsaw puzzle that Clare had solved so we all went to look for it. Matthew didn’t like the fact that I put it back in a slightly different (and harder) place and made me put it back

7th September 2019 – Bugsy Travels & The Travel Bugs GC8521N – cache #5047
After a trip into Chinatown where we had a great meal for 10 of us in a restaurant which by the time we left was full of Chinese people (you can always tell a good Chinese restaurant as the Chinese people eat in it) we went along to the evening event which was in the upstairs rooms of a very noisy and crowded pub, we were all knackered so sat in the quiet room and chatted
