Stories from my Geocaching adventures

Caches No’s 4285 to 4306 – Caledonian Cache Fest Part 1

SO, without YOSM’s to detour me from the boring direct roads from ‘a’ to ‘b’ I had to think of something else to do on my way up to Scotland for ‘The Caledonian Cache Fest’, a new event being held in the border region of Scotland. The first outing of the event was to be held in Peebles.
The answer to what to look for on my way up North without resorting to ‘normal’ caches was to devise a route up via old Virtual caches

Caches No’s 4271 to 4284 – Kent Mega 2017 Part 3

And so Monday dawned and it was time to drive the 200 and odd miles home again, I had a route planned that took in a few more YOSM’s – as there was now only a week or so to go for YOSM’s I was prepared to drive a bit further out of my way to get a last few.

Caches No’s 4222 to 4236 – Kent Mega 2017 Part 1

I have fallen right out of the habit of going out Geocaching by myself… almost all the caches I have done for months have been associated with an ‘Event’ either found on the way to, the way back or during the event itself… May 2016 was the last time I went out by myself just to find a few caches.
The announcement that we were losing GC45CC – YOSM further put a dampener on my interest in Geocaching in that if I can’t go finding trigpoints when I am driving to events part of the excitement of going to the big far away events at all has gone. Continue reading

Cache No. 4215 – The End of Ye Olde Survey Monuments

Just a few days after the 15th Birthday celebrations for YOSM it was announced by Groundspeak that they were changing the way their database worked to stop people being able to put a find log on the same cache twice, and so GC45CC was doomed… Despite many pleas for it to be treated as a special case (and the similar cache in North America) Groundspeak announced that it would be archived and locked in early May. This really put a dampener on my enjoyment of geocaching.
